“Natural Superiority” of that Culture

Two first world tourists arrived to a hotel which they considered of high quality and dignified of their standards, that according to them are hard to find in a third world country. One of them is a college professor and the other one a successful entrepreneur. They are eager to learn about the local culture and also have plans to help the people. As  their social interactions develop with the local people their arrogance is inevitable to notice after making remarks about the harsh conditions these people live in, about the lack of freedom they have, about how nasty the water is and how strange the food is, about how much indifference these  people have toward them, which according to them is just one of the perks of coming from a  privileged  country, that presumes to have a sea of freedom and economic opportunities. For the tourists the local people were just jealous of their immense freedom and brand-name clothes, so they felt pity for them and gave them extra money for their traditional forms of art. To their surprise one local artist told them he would not receive any extra money, so the tourist insisted by telling him that they wanted to help him. He told them, “What makes you think I need help?” The tourists walked away with all their money and their narrow, yet well informed and educated perspective about the world. They were irrational toward the artist and the local people, they had defined what is good and what is bad based on their own culture, a culture which they think is a pure example of their so called term freedom, a culture that feels the exigency to help others, a culture that by irrational means feels superior to others and completely ignores the right and capacity of others.
